Clothing is a huge part of expressing our personality and individuality. It’s also a huge factor in determining the style direction of your session. Yes, even for the guys! Believe it or not – locations, our style of shooting, and the final portrait art all branch from your clothing selections, too.
Use the following resources to plan your portrait-perfect outfits.

Tips & Tricks
a few tips when selecting clothing
When selecting outfits, I always suggest a variety of looks. Try to include both casual and dressy styles as well as styles for multiple sessions. Even if your session takes place in the summer, it’s always great to have an outfit with a layered fall look too!
make sure it fits
There’s no better way to ruin your session than ill-fitting clothing. Make sure your outfits fit your body well. Slouchy shoulders in shirts or pants folding over because they’re too big are never a good look. Yikes!
have some options
I suggest having four complete outfits for your session. We won’t use all of them, but it’s nice to have a selection to choose from.
Complete outfit = pressed outfit + shoes + accessories like a watch or hat…etc
Where to Shop
Need a few ideas for places to shop? Here are a few great places to find outfits for your session.
Great for tailored looks and formal suits. You can find it in the Geneva Commons or the at the Chicago Premium Outlets in Aurora
Modern fit clothing with great basics for layering. You can find it at the Woodfield Mall, Cherryvale Mall, Fox Valley Mall, or online.
Relaxed casual fashion and a large jeans selection. You can find it in the Geneva Commons, Algonquin Commons, or most malls and online.
Your clothes ironed and on hangers to allow us to easily see each outfit together for efficiency. Hang them up in your car, or lay them flat in the back.
Any other colored belts you need other than the one you’re wearing
shoes and accessories to go with each outfit — This includes socks if you need to change them out.
your sports/activity/special interest equipment (all of it – including your ball, helmet, gear, etc.)
a comb or brush + product to touch up your hair if needed
chapstick (dry lips don’t photograph well)
your sunglasses for those fun summery shots
your smile and great attitude! (that’s the most important)
ready, set, go!
a few final details before your session
Be sure to arrive on time for your session so that we can get through all of the session details we have. Arriving late will reduce the allotted shoot time we have planned.
The night before your session, double-check your portal for our shoot location and where we will meet.
