This is probably the #1 question I am asked when planning a portrait session. What should I wear? So, I’ve created the perfect guide to help you choose the outfits that fit your body type, skin tone, and personality!

Clothing is a huge part of expressing your personality and individuality.  It’s also a huge factor in determining the style direction of your session.  Yes, even for guys!  Believe it or not – locations, my style of shooting, and the final portrait art all branches from your clothing selections, too.

a few tips when selecting clothing

When selecting outfits, I always suggest a variety of looks.  Try to include both casual and dressy styles as well as styles for multiple sessions.  Even if your session takes place in the summer, it’s always great to have an outfit with a layered fall look too!

make sure it fits

There’s no better way to ruin your session than ill-fitting clothing.  Make sure your outfits fit your body well.  Slouchy shoulders in shirts or pants folding over because they’re too big are never a good look.  Yikes!

have some options

I suggest having four complete outfits for your session.  We won’t use all of them, but it’s nice to have a selection to choose from.

Complete outfit = pressed outfit + shoes + accessories like a watch or hat…etc

Tips and Trick to help you look your best on session day!

your sports/activity/special interest equipment (all of it – including your ball, helmet, gear, etc.)

a comb or brush + product to touch up your hair if needed

chapstick (dry lips don’t photograph well)
