What’s the Difference? | Senior Photos vs Yearbook Photo

LET’S BREAK IT DOWN – Senior photos vs yearbook photo. Finals are over and summer is here!  That means you’re no longer a junior, and it’s time to start thinking about SENIOR YEAR!  Soon you’ll be getting info in the mail about taking your senior photo at school for the yearbook.  But is that the only option you have?  What exactly is a senior photo? And what’s the difference? Senior photos vs a yearbook photo?  The difference is actually HUGE!

Senior photos have come a looooong way since I was in high school.  HA!  When I was growing up, you just went to the school and had a “studio-style” picture taken.  That was it!  Senior photos have since evolved into something much better.  You get to express who you are, your interests, your style, and your personality.

In our area, yearbook photos are still required and have to be taken by the school-appointed company so everyone’s photo looks exactly the same in the yearbook. But, you’re not limited to just those photos!  You can also schedule a custom senior portrait session with your favorite photographer…ahem…me!  We’ll work together to create incredible photos that express who you are at this moment!

The Yearbook Photo

Let’s start with what a yearbook photo is.   A yearbook photo is a photo that all seniors have to take in order to be in the yearbook. These photos are typically taken in the summer before senior year begins. They’re done at the high school with a large photo company that sets up a backdrop and artificial light. All seniors have the same style of photos taken so that the yearbook looks uniform and consistent. I actually think for the yearbook it does make for a nice look that is very traditional. However, that’s where it should end and the type of shoot that I offer should begin.

The SKP Senior Experience

When you schedule a senior portrait session with me, the photos are nothing like the traditional studio style you get at the school! Your photos are ALL ABOUT YOU!  You can wear whatever you want and have more than one outfit to really showcase your style. We’ll use more than one location to show off your personality.  Whether you are hoping for a more modern industrial feel or the warmth of a field with grasses and trees, you can choose what best reflects you.

In addition to different outfits and locations, all of my senior girls have the option to begin their session with professional hair and makeup which allows you to feel really special and look your absolute best for your shoot. I work with Kali Rose Beauty, and she is amazing at making you camera ready for your senior pictures.

I want to create a senior portrait experience you won’t forget. We’ll get to know each another before your session.  I’ll make sure to help you feel comfortable and at ease in front of the camera. Unlike the yearbook photo which is a process of getting as many seniors through as possible, a senior portrait session with SKP is one that’s centered entirely around you.

After all, you’re only a high school senior once and I want to help you make it as memorable as possible.

So if you are looking to capture your senior year in a fun, unique way, book a senior photo session with SKP. You deserve more than just the yearbook photo to remember your senior year.

I am currently booking seniors, and I would love to work with you! Contact me for more information and available dates.
